  • During tonight's rehearsal we did a musical "thank you" to our acting musical director, Lee, to the tune of the last movement in the Britten Ceremony of Carols, "Deo Gracias". It occurred to me that we have at long last (since [livejournal.com profile] redcub's departure from the RGMC) found our new resident filk artist. (No, that is not a typo.)

  • Also in the C of C there is a section of "There is no rose" in Latin which goes "Res miranda" (translation: "a thing to behold"). To show how evil and twisted one can get with the most pious of lyrics, imagine this set to the tune of "Help Me, Rhonda": "Res miranda, res, res miranda..." ;-)

  • Then there was the moment during our small group rehearsal for the Rachmaninoff pieces we're doing, in which the lead baritone, Todd, was sort of conducting, both with his head and with his music folder (Does that make him a semi-conductor? ;-). Lee pointed out that he needed Todd to "give us more head" (and less folder). ;-)

P.S. Brandy (see icon) is so cute when she sacks out on the corner of the bed and snores.

"Gerald N. Springer (b. 1944) -- also known as Jerry Springer -- of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Born in London, England, February 13, 1944. Democrat. Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, 1977-78; candidate in primary for Governor of Ohio, 1982. Jewish. Resigned from Cincinnati city council in 1974 after admitting he paid a prostitute with a personal check, which was found in a police raid on a massage parlor; won back his council seat in 1975 and went on to become mayor. Still living as of 2000."

Yes, that Jerry Springer. The Democratic Party in Ohio would really like to see him run for Senate -- after all, his political longevity in the face of scandal is perhaps unprecedented. Go Jerry Go!

Just a few observations for the day:

  • At RGMC rehearsal tonight, Nick (our director) was trying to get people to get their heads out of the music so he could play with tempos and such. At one point he lamented the fact that the chorus slowed down a section of one of the songs when he hadn't indicated we should do so, and said basically that we were all a bunch of "emotional sluts" who wanted to milk the emotion out of every last note. I think David (another bass who was sitting next to me) is all ready to have T-shirts made.

  • Our producer (who is himself rather bearish in size although clean-shaven) was going over concert dress for Saturday: black pants, socks and shoes, white dress shirt open at the collar, no tie, white undershirt, and "I don't care what color underwear, or if you wear any at all." Later at break I remarked to [livejournal.com profile] jockbearwny, "I guess he doesn't want to see your LiveJournal then." ;-)

  • Got home and [livejournal.com profile] gmjambear was watching Larry King talking with the parents of Jeffrey Dahmer. Immediately I launched into a chorus of Barbra: "People... people who eat people..." before he stopped me. ;-)

Busy weekend coming up: tech rehearsal tomorrow evening, my parents arrive Saturday afternoon, concert Saturday evening, spend Sunday with the folks, they go back Monday. I'll let you know how it goes when I get a chance.

Found an interesting definition (in a slightly different context) of the term twink. I especially liked the last part: "compare mainstream 'chick'."

Discuss. ;-)

This is a page I discovered while looking for family tartans on www.clan.com (since the topic came up on the Bears Mailing List). Now I know this is a perfectly legitimate family name and all, but the coincidence was just too good to pass up. ;-)

(Update: The page seems to have disappeared. It was a photo of the Manson Family Tartan.)
