bigmacbear: Me in a leather jacket and Hockey Night in Canada ball cap, on a ferry with Puget Sound in background (Default)
Today's session went quickly. I checked out of the hotel and stashed my luggage with the cute bear working the valet parking and bell desk this morning.

Had lunch at Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse in the West End. I had a chipotle sirloin Caesar salad and a cup of soup because I didn't want to load up on mashed potatoes. As it was, I didn't finish the salad, just the steak. Dropped in at Wild Bill's Western Wear but didn't see anything I wanted, so I took the train to Reunion Tower and hung out there, literally in the clouds, for an hour or two. Was considering the Perot Museum but didn't feel like that much walking in the rain.

While I was up in the tower I caught up with Gary via text. I'd heard from some of the bears on Facebook that roads were still pretty nasty in Everett and Mill Creek. Gary reported mostly cloudy. no snow; but more snow was expected overnight, a dusting to an inch. So I thought it was worthy of the new "I'm crushing your head" emoji. I checked Sound Transit on the web and the 512 was skipping all downtown Everett stops except Everett Station; other than that it appeared to be running normally. I could see the ground okay, but not the horizon.

Our conversation turned to hockey. Stacy said her family are cutting back on the number of Dallas Stars games they attend because they run too late on school nights. Instead of a half season they are getting a 10-game package. I showed her the cartoon of Jesus watching hockey in case she missed it. She liked it. Gary noted the Silvertips were in the playoffs, having won 5-0 over the Portland Winterhawks.

So I was kicking back and watching the cars go by on the freeways through the cloud. According to the schedule I needed to be back to the hotel to claim my bags by 4, and on the train to DFW by 4:20. The hotel was three stops away counting Union Station. I wondered if there's anything worth seeing over at Deep Ellum on a rainy day. The clouds lifted a bit, so only the tops of the towers were obscured by the time I left. There was a cute young gingerish bear about our size showing pictures from the tower on different days, one at sunset and another with icicles, as we were waiting for the elevator down. A cute little dude in a wheelchair operated the elevator.

Gary suggested the Old Red Museum across from Dealy Plaza. It was a short walk from Union Station but I did have to stop and rest a lot once I got there. The Red Museum was interesting and I took lots of pictures. Rather than returning to Union Station I took the short walk to West End to catch the train back to the hotel. The cub from this morning was gone when I picked up my bags.

The train to DFW was fairly full, as it was only one car. Dude across from me was silently mouthing the words to what was playing in his earbuds. Short and slight black dude in multiple dark shades of grey over an aqua T-shirt and a black toque. Later he began singing along audibly, then walked to the back of the train and left at Love Field.

There was a dude in front of me at security wearing a Cowboys ball cap, who had thick upper arms with a lot of ink, which I complimented him on. I spotted a tall young dude on the Skylink train with a ginger beard and darker close-cropped hair, wearing a T-shirt, tan shorts and sneaks. He had a significant road rash on his left knee; I didn't ask how he acquired it.

I had dinner at Love Shack right next to my gate: a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. Across the restaurant I spotted a cute bear with a scruffy beard -- good. With a woman -- bad. Wearing a Dodgers cap -- worse.

When I arrived at the gate, no gate agents were there yet. I took a seat and spotted a cute otter-pup with thick scruff and stubbly shaved head, black T-shirt over a gray thermal shirt, heavy silver chain around his neck, blue jeans and tan square-toe boots. A dude down the row to his left had black hair in somewhat of a pompadour and a fluorescent yellow hoodie. Incoming flight arrived late and had just started deboarding at our scheduled boarding time, so our departure was delayed just over 10 minutes. Meanwhile, a tall, thin ginger dude with scruffy beard was seated next to me, with a couple girls in his group seated to his left. He was digging around in his backpack on the floor and inadvertently showed me how tight his blue jeans are. A mother and daughter were right in front of me on the jetway with a Husky puppy in a soft-sided bag. They ended up sharing the same row with me. The dude with the tight jeans was seated at least a few rows behind me.

We were late leaving the gate in Dallas because the jet bridge broke and had to be repaired before they could disconnect it from the aircraft. Then we had to circle over Yakima. I slept about an hour on the plane. Once we were on the ground and taxiing to the gate, the plane made a sudden stop on the taxiway. I think there was another plane in our gate. They've added on to the north satellite. The new gates have neon signs like the gates on the main concourses. The entire airport was a madhouse. Dude behind me was supposed to be on a plane to Medford at 10:35, but it's not leaving till 11:30. We're being asked to wait for those with tight connections to get off the plane first.

Since I had no checked bags I made it to the train fairly quickly. The train was standing room only. According to the Community Transit bus finder, the last bus at Olive & 6th was expected at 12:21 (5 minutes later than scheduled), so I was cutting it close. The train stopped for an operator change outside Beacon Hill tunnel. When I reached Olive & 6th, Bus Finder no longer showed the 12:16 bus at all -- not a good sign. One Bus Away still had the scheduled time, but it can't know any better. There were a couple of dudes in the doorways of the Verizon store but I was the only one in the actual shelter. The dude nearest me was rather cubbish. Looks like a total of 4 including me. I was afraid of having a crowd at the stop as about 100 people exited the train at Westlake. The 512, a Double Tall, finally arrived and I sat downstairs in the back. Several minutes later we were still at Olive & 6th, due to an unresponsive dude in the handicap seats opposite the stairs. Finally the driver and supervisor woke him, found out the bus doesn't go where he's going, and kicked him off the bus. I met Gary at South Everett and he drove me home.
