We got an early start on the day. The planning session was in a conference room at the same hotel where we were staying. We were supposed to tell everyone a little bit about ourselves as we did introductions. Some notable items:
* Met Joe from AT&T University in Dallas. From Little Rock originally, moved to Austin, Atlanta, and back to Dallas. Worked with Greg Wilcox on onboarding projects.
* John Klenert (our historian from DC) mentioned he'd been involved with civil disobedience at the Capitol which led to the remark that he's into handcuffs. :)
* Mark Carden travels all the way from Atlanta to Dallas to have his beard sculpted by the same guy the locals visit.
* Clint from KC grew up in Arkansas in a home without indoor plumbing.
* Tiffany is from Minnesota and is a big fan of Charles Bassett.
* Charles is a novice historian of the Jonestown massacre.
* Dale Street is from Baltimore and works in IoT.
* Lou Solis (from Guatemala by way of Grand Rapids) works in international EH&S compliance.
* Danielle is a tech in Montana.
* Patty is an accomplished painter in acrylics and watercolors. She works in FirstNet
* Preston is national programs chair and is moving back to Atlanta from DFW.
* Kristie Deeg - Michigan chapter, Ally Committee
During the first break, I showed Charles (who is the co-anchor of our internal newscast Around the Globe) some footage of our favorite bear reporter, Steve Kiggins. He responded that he used to work with someone in the Mobile/Pensacola TV market who was also the president of his local bear club.
As we took our lunch break, I shared with Gary the news that the company event for Stonewall 50 may be the Saturday rather than the Sunday of Pride weekend. We ended up sticking to our original plan: arrive Friday, return Wednesday.
During a session about the Ally Committee, Joe mentioned that for an ally, "You don't have to march in the parade in a leather harness." I responded, "If you're into that, I have one you can borrow." ;)
We closed for the day around 5:30 and agreed to meet at 7 in the lobby to decide what to do for dinner. I was surprised to find Ernie had a family function to attend so he wouldn't be available to go hit the Crossroads after dinner. I returned to the room to nap and freshen up.
Dinner was in the hotel bar and restaurant with Clint and Robin from KC, Kristie from MI and Tiffany from the Twin Cities. I had shrimp and blue corn grits and we shared a side of hush puppies around the table. We sat and talked for about two and a half hours. I told them the "I'm not 22 anymore" story which they liked.
After dinner, since no one was going out I decided to return to the room, watch the news and go to bed. I had the OKC vs. Houston Rockets basketball game on, and was wondering why the Rockets were wearing shirts with Chinese characters on the front. Adams (OKC #12) reminded me of Jason Momoa. The game ended with a final score of 117-112 OKC over Houston. After that game I caught the tail end of the opening game of the new Association of American Football league which was delaying the start of the newscast on Channel 11. San Antonio beat San Diago 15-6. The newscast showed footage of people skiing on the street back in Seattle. LOL. Weather cutie was off duty for the weekend.
In other news, I noticed Dawson Butt of the Silvertips hadn't been playing, and someone reported he'd dislocated his shoulder getting checked into the boards vs. Seattle. So instead of merely scratching Butt, the Tips had Butt in a sling. Gary didn't like that pun and told me to knock it off. We signed off and I got to sleep around 11:30.
