More Americans than I expected devalue intelligence and fairness, it is clear from the fact that both Bush and the "no-gay-marriage" amendments appear to have prevailed in this election. I don't have a lot of time to expound on these results, but it's sad that the vast majority of this country is so easily led to vote against their best interests. Baa.

For those many who are, like myself, feeling more than a little defenseless after losing the trifecta -- Bush's election as President (by fair means or foul; exactly which, is irrelevant at this point), the increasing Republican majorities in both houses of Congress, and the eleven states enshrining anti-gay bigotry in their Constitutions -- this post by [livejournal.com profile] lostncove just may do some good.

And for those who would like a musical interlude to back up this profound statement, I can think of none better than the one I heard over and over again in Montreal:

Go out and tell our story.
Let it echo far and wide.
Make them hear you.
Make them hear you.
How justice was our battle
and how justice was denied.
Make them hear you.
Make them hear you. ...

("Make Them Hear You" from Ragtime, music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens)
