Augusta Easter Trip, Day 6 of 6
Apr. 22nd, 2019 11:59 pmMONDAY
I had set my alarm for 12:30 and was packed, showered and dressed by 1:15. Gary was awake and I asked him if he had slept at all; he said two to two and a half hours. Once he was mostly packed and dressed, he went downstairs to print out our boarding passes in case they were needed at the train station as mentioned on signs all over the place. When he returned to the room we gave it a final inspection and checked out of the hotel about 1:30 as planned.
Traffic was very light and mostly big rigs at that hour. I noticed at one exit was the town of Newborn and also Hard Labor Creek State Park. I pointed this out to Gary and we both exclaimed in unison, "YOU DID THIS TO ME!!!" and had a good laugh. We dropped the car off and were informed that we didn't need to do anything but leave the keys in the car and they would email me a receipt.
That settled, we took the Airtrain to the terminal, dropped off our luggage and were directed around the main security checkpoint to the south checkpoint for a shorter line. We didn't have Pre-Check this time and it took me a bit longer than usual to get recombobulated after passing through, mainly because it was difficult to keep up with the bins moving down the conveyor.
We proceeded downstairs to the plane train, where I was sandwiched between two hot black bears (one of them Gary 😊) and a third bear with a ginger beard. The other black bear left at concourse C while we ended up following the ginger bear up the escalators to concourse D. When we arrived, none of the shops were open as it wasn't quite 5:00 yet. So we proceeded directly to the gate to wait for our flight. There was a dude with a trim, more salt than pepper, beard seated in the opposite corner of the gate area who resembled some of the folks we met through the bear club.
I spotted the ginger bear from the train seated in the exit row as we boarded the plane. A petite Asian woman took the aisle seat next to me. In the middle of the flight she began frantically searching the area around her feet and mine with the flashlight on her phone, so a flight attendant came over and assisted her; apparently she'd lost a shoe. I spent most of the flight watching episodes of Boise Boys and other HGTV programs. At the end of the flight, a lean dude with long hair found the Asian lady's shoe a few rows forward. The salt-and-pepper bearded dude inquired about the shoe and I let him know it was found.
I got a voicemail from the UW Eye Institute during the flight, and attempted to return the call, but after being on hold the entire 40-minute train ride from the airport and another 10 or so at ID/Chinatown station, I found it utterly impossible. We boarded the next bus to Everett without incident. A ginger bear with a thick beard and a mop top sat in the "booth" in front of us and left at 45th Street.
As we were making the turn for Everett Station I finally got the call from the Eye Institute and told them I would not be able to make the 1 PM appointment they were offering because of the logistics of coming all the way back from Everett. They said they will call back later this week. We stopped in at the Espresso Bello cafe in Everett Station for a much-needed brunch of croissant sandwiches and muffins. After that it was a matter of hailing an Uber (driven by a nice young dude who kept up a pleasant conversation all the way) and heading home.
