Augusta Easter Trip, Day 3 of 6
Apr. 19th, 2019 11:59 pmFRIDAY
We got up, showered, and went downstairs for breakfast about 8:30. A lean young man in a tight T-shirt was seated in front of us while we ate and watched TV. Shortly after nine when the breakfast bar closed, we were asked to leave so the lady could clean up the dining room. By then our room had been serviced so we had a nap, waking up around 1:30 pm.
Our plan was to have a late lunch en route to the hospital, visit Darnell, then return to the house for dinner with Lillie, Carol, and Mike. As we were leaving, Mike called and asked us to pick him up at the house, so we all went to lunch together at Firehouse Subs in Grovetown. Gary remarked at the oddity of having a sandwich called a New York Steamer in Georgia, so I ordered a footlong of that (corned beef and melted Swiss cheese) for my lunch.
From there we hopped on I-20 in a driving rainstorm that lasted about 5 minutes, but was insanely intense while it lasted. But when we arrived at the hospital the rain backed off almost completely. We spent a couple hours chatting with Darnell over his dinner, until the nurse came to give him an IV infusion.
Then we stopped by an ATM for Mike to get cash, and went back to the house for dinner. We had pork chops baked in gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, and carrots and peas. As dinner was ending, Gary's cousin Shelly and her daughters Alisa (aka Chink) and Tara arrived. Chink gave Gary a printed photo of themselves. Also, Lillie gave us T-shirts to wear at the party, the address of the venue, and the time to arrive (5 pm). We chatted and watched old episodes of Perry Mason until ten, and returned to the hotel and bed.
