A few weeks ago I received a jury summons from King County. I was scheduled to report for jury duty on Monday, November 13, but on advice from my boss I requested, and received, a postponement. The reason for doing this is that I am in a contract-to-hire status, and as a contractor I do not get paid for jury duty but as an employee I would. So I picked the week of July 9, 2007 to reschedule (the requirement is that the schedule date be within 12 months).
In today's mail what do I see but
another jury summons, this time from Renton Municipal Court for January 24 and 25. I don't know if I will be able to postpone this one, and it falls within the period when I will most likely still be contracting and thus forced to give up a couple of days' pay.
I'm rather amazed that a) the various courts in the counties of Washington don't coordinate with each other when doing jury summonses (unlike New York, where the county supplies jurors to all levels of court within the county and there are time limits within which jurors cannot be called again), and b) I've now been called twice and
gmjambear, who has so much more time on his hands, hasn't been called once.
Some things I guess are not meant to happen. Grr.
