Go Hawks!

[livejournal.com profile] gmjambear and I went to the Seattle Men's Chorus new-member reception at the home of Dennis Coleman, the Artistic Director of the SMC. Dennis had the NFC championship game on the TV and after a few conversations we settled down to watch the game with Dennis and about half the partygoers.

During one of the conversations I noticed one of the other new members in the kitchen and told Gary I thought he looked like the love child of the RGMC's former assistant director and Jake Gyllenhaal. ;-) He smacked my hand for that one.

As the game progressed and the outcome was looking more and more like Seattle was headed for the Super Bowl, Dennis mentioned that a planned trip would conflict with the Super Bowl (as he would be airborne at the hour of the game). Told that the Super Bowl is not next weekend but the following (Feb. 5), he realized that the trip would not be a conflict and was gratified to find the number of football fans among the Chorus members present, so we may well find him hosting a Super Bowl party as well.

We stayed for the rest of the game, excited with the Seahawks' win (34-14), and after a brief further conversation and goodbyes all round, headed back toward home. We discovered the "back way" out of the neighborhood which leads down a winding road through a park and empties out onto the WA 520 floating bridge, and stopped in for a light dinner at Goldberg's Deli in the Factoria Mall.

At Goldberg's we overheard the owner pointing out that no one ate there during the game so he'd sent most of his wait staff home, but folks who had been at the game rolled in in twos and threes for a bite to eat, and we began cheering them on with a "Go Hawks!" as they arrived. There was also a somewhat cubbish fellow in a hoodie at the next table that made me think of [livejournal.com profile] detailbear's recent exploits, who was oblivious to most everything as he dined with iPod buds in his ears.

After dinner we headed home, and while Gary took Brandy out for a trot I checked in with my folks on the phone, and the fellow from the staffing agency called to check that everything was in order for me to start my new job tomorrow.

So it's been a good day all around. Now for a little Net surfing, picking what to wear tomorrow, and to bed.

P.S. Has anyone seen that new commercial for the Toyota RAV4 with the numbers flying around off the gas station signs and sticking to cars? I find it almost as visually disturbing as the segment of Creepshow where the old man in the penthouse apartment is overrun by roaches. But not quite.

* [livejournal.com profile] gmjambear and I have taken to pronouncing the "XL" in "Super Bowl XL" as "Extra Large", as opposed to "Forty".
* Conversely, over Christmas my dad was channel-surfing and came across the listing for XXX (well, actually, it should be xXx but the TV thingie had listed it in all uppercase) on one of the movie channels, and pronounced it "Thirty".
* And while we're on the topic of numbers in titles and their pronunciation, I've found folks were really amused when I referred to 10.5 as "ten and a half" instead of "ten point five". (I chose not to watch it; Gary thought it was crap. Irwin Allen would be proud.)
