Yesterday Rochester had its annual Pride Parade. While the parade itself got by with a light sprinkling of rain, the festival which was to follow in Highland Bowl amphitheater was effectively ruined by a heavy downpour with thunder and lightning, requiring cancellation of the RGMC's performance.

After the performance was canceled, [livejournal.com profile] gmjambear and I went to Old Country Buffet for dinner. A number of tables were filled with Boy Scouts from California on their way to or from camp; we'd seen their buses in the parking lot. Many of the Scouts had patches on their neckerchiefs with a picture of a bear on them. Gary was wearing his "Big Bear Inc." T-shirt from San Francisco, and one of the Scouts happened to notice it, as I overheard him muttering "Bears?" as we passed him on the way to the buffet. Of course, there were a few other bearish men there as well, as can be expected. ;-)

I flipped the channel to Animal Planet briefly after watching the local news, and "Whoa! Sunday" with Mo Rocca was on. He's doing a "man-in-the-street" interview and out pops this gem:

MO ROCCA: So there's got to be a prom in vet school. What animal should I take as my date?
MAN IN STREET: Definitely... bears.

[livejournal.com profile] gmjambear and I saw Crash the other night. I was impressed by the film and its ensemble cast.

As I told Gary, I noticed a resemblance between the locksmith (portrayed by Michael Peña) and [livejournal.com profile] 2fruition. Woof!

Oh, and Ryan Phillippe is starting to mature a bit in his role in this film, kind of like Rick Schroeder and Mark-Paul Gosselaar have done in NYPD Blue. Still, I thought it strange that in one of the pivotal scenes in the film, it looks for all the world like the hitchhiker he picks up is his age, not the five or ten years younger the plot demands.

Gary has picked up more of the subtleties of the film in his review. I recommend it, even if he did have to drag me to see it. ;-)
