Concert Weekend
Mar. 29th, 2004 12:44 amThe RGMC, the chorus I sing with, had our concert Saturday evening featuring the music of Louis Armstrong, as performed by a gay, white, deaf musician (he has a cochlear implant so he's not completely deaf) whose singing voice bears an uncanny resemblance to Satchmo's. It was a fun performance, although the number of Chorines this cycle was dramatically smaller than Christmas. I suppose this was because people didn't much care to be backup singers. I was disappointed to find they'd left my name out of the chorus roster in the evening's program, along with another Chorine's, but I wasn't too bent out-of-shape over it. Our director was nice enough to announce our names at the beginning of the concert as a way of making up for the oversight.
Incidentally, I got to introduce
gmjambear to
jockbearwny in person during intermission. I hope
jockbearwny comes with us to Montreal,
gmjambear and I are already booked and looking forward to the trip.
After the concert we caught a brief snippet of a telecast featuring the Moody Blues in concert at the Royal Albert Hall, which was playing on the local PBS affiliate, WXXI. When that concluded we went to a local restaurant called Zebb's and hung out with some of the Chorines.
This afternoon we were scheduled to have brunch with the Empire Bears but the restaurant we planned on eating at -- the Pink Elephant -- had closed down, apparently for good. Bummer, that. So instead we went to a diner across town. It was still fun though.
The evening was taken up with church and some more social events. All in all, a decent weekend -- and you couldn't ask for nicer weather, cool and clear.
