Kamp Kodiak -- highlights

[livejournal.com profile] gmjambear, Brandy and I spent the weekend with the Northwest Bears at Kamp Kodiak. The weekend went very well, I think, but I'm just a bit sore and tired and slept a few hours almost as soon as we got into the door.

  • Amazing how bad traffic is even in the remote corners of King and Snohomish Counties.
  • Arrived Friday afternoon just in time for a mixer and weenie roast. Lots of bears and their dogs. Brandy was better behaved than I expected, letting her roam a bit helped.
  • Friday night we saw Murder by Death out behind the meal tent. They were going to play A Dirty Shame afterwards but people were too tired to stick around and watch.
  • Sleeping on the air mattress with the flannel sheets and two sleeping bags made for a toasty night's sleep despite the chill in the air.
  • After Saturday breakfast we sat around playing "Catch Phrase" for a while.
  • Cute tattooed cub was flirting with me all morning. Playful sort, enough said.
  • Gary and I took Brandy to the river overlook, I went down to the river and went skinny-dipping, but all those rocks made my feet hurt and I went into the water rather faster than I'd intended.
  • Saturday afternoon we played Hollywood Squares before dinner.
  • Dinner was excellent!
  • After dinner we had drinks at the campsite across the way from us, where the campers (one from Dallas) had set up a little tableau from Brokeback Mountain, complete with a tent (about the right size for Brandy), the two shirts, and a sign made with rope tacked to a board that read "I wish I knew how to quit you" (with a little add-on sign "ewe").
  • After dinner was a "Best Buns" contest.
  • Afterwards folks played board games, we brought "Apples to Apples" which was a big hit; others were playing "Pictionary" and I don't know how they were supposed to get "Libya" from a picture of "labia".
  • Got up early this morning and took pictures of the Miller River. Climbing back up out of the ravine didn't seem so difficult yesterday.

Pictures to follow, and maybe a more coherent retelling of some of the events. Later folks.
