Politics As Usual Must Stop
Happened to read what appears to be an an op-ed piece from USA Today on yahoo.com and some comments posted in response, and it occurs to me that we really can't correct the mistake made by the Bush administration to go to war in Iraq. We can't undo the damage that has been done. That said, it seems that what is imperative to getting out of this mess is to fix a measurable, achievable objective in Iraq that, when achieved, will give the administration the political cover needed to bow out with what grace it can muster.
Sadly, George W. Bush will have none of it. His ever-moving targets keep our troops in harm's way unnecessarily. Moreover, this administration (and local governments bullied into compliance by the same) have trampled on the Constitution in an effort to silence dissent, a clear violation of the oath of office all these officials take. For this there needs to be accountability, perhaps even punishment.
Of course, politics as usual will prevent that from ever happening. We need, therefore, to bring a halt to politics as usual by overhauling the US government, and the 2006 midterm elections are our last, best hope of effecting this overhaul before the current administration has time to wreck the nation further than it already has.

I feel your pain
Here I may have to vote for a party I despise (the Liberals) just to keep Haper out.
