Busy weekend...

Just summing up a busy weekend.

Friday: I had to scramble to get work done so I could pick up supplies for the weekend and rush off to a chorus retreat in Batavia, NY. Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] gmjambear was finishing preparations for our friends from Toronto (more specifically, the House Of [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome), Danny and Goody, to arrive for the long weekend. I wished I could have been there to welcome them when they arrived. I got to Batavia only a few minutes late despite leaving only a half-hour of travel time when we all thought it would take 45 minutes to an hour. Rehearsal went well. After rehearsal we had a business meeting; bad timing to have it at 10 PM, I thought, but mercifully it was short and to the point. Afterwards a couple of the Chorines set up Party Central in their room next door to mine, which was convenient for my roommate and I since we could open the communicating doors and move back and forth. I thought the party might spill over into our room, but we managed to get the people into one room most of the time. Someone remarked that from a distance this particular party of gay men sounded indistinguishable from a mixed party of men and women. Makes you go "hmmm...." Good thing they put us over the lobby. We all got to bed around 2 AM or so.

Saturday: Breakfast at 8:30ish, rehearsal at 9. Not enough sleep. Despite this rehearsal went pretty well. The key to surviving marathon rehearsals is to keep drinking water, which not so coincidentally is also a good cure for hangovers. It will not help lack of sleep though. We had lunch around noon and kept rehearsing till about 3 PM (an hour earlier than scheduled). Drove back to Rochester. I was kind of surprised not to find Gary and our guests at home, but Gary called and said they all had been to George Eastman House to see the Museum of Photography. I've been there before, it is a fun house to visit. We all went out for dinner at Applebees. The food was very good but the service was less than stellar as they were obviously shortstaffed. Afterwards we all went to Can-Am night at the Forum which was crowded, noisy, and hot; a perfect set of conditions if I were in the mood to appreciate it, but tolerable in small doses since I wasn't. Gary made the wise decision to take two cars since he could tell I was a little wiped out, so we left about 12:30 and let Danny and Goody enjoy themselves. I don't know when they got back as I was already asleep.

Sunday (today): Danny registered for the whole Can-Am weekend run with the Rochester Rams, and so did not join us for brunch. However, we met another carload of Canadians there (Peter and Tino, David and Jeff) along with a good chunk of the Empire Bears. Brunch was, as usual, fabulous, and we had some good conversations there.

I've been up way too late and so I'll have to finish this some other time.
