International News
Saw this -> (Murder probes 'to be farmed out') on the ITV News from England this evening (courtesy of NewsWorld International).
What is kind of amusing is that the story comes from Nottingham, England, and refers to the top police authority in that city and surrounding county. Nowadays he is called the chief constable, but in days past would he not have been the "Sheriff of Nottingham?"
I suspect the Robin Hood jokes will not be long in coming... ;-)
Also saw last night's CBC Sunday Night recorded from NewsWorld International on the DVR. There was a story on the grounding of JetsGo Airlines and some advice on what customers should do to get refunds. All the while,
Give me my money back
Give me my money back, you bitch
I want my money back
;-)
Finally, on the same CBC Sunday Night program there was a segment following up on a vote this past Tuesday at a Wal-Mart in Windsor, Ontario on whether or not to certify a union, which failed, 59 to 167. Both the original report I'd seen on The National last week and the follow-up featured the following three main characters (but neither story appears to have been archived so I can't show you pictures):
- a cubbish fellow, working the overnight shift doing maintenance, who started the latest organizing drive, who
gmjambear thought looked a lot like
nfotxn; - a big fellow with long hair but (alas!) clean-shaven, who was the union representative; and
- a fellow with a high-and-tight haircut and a fey manner who was the spokesman for Wal-Mart Canada.
My one word question while the Wal-Mart rep was on screen: "Family?" Gary said he thought both the rep and the maintenance guy were; not sure about the union rep.
