Potpourri

  • Watching a story on [livejournal.com profile] gmjambear Gary's station's newscast, I heard it announced that the City of Rochester is pretty much assured of buying the fast ferry, the only question being for how much. This is because the only commercial enterprise to put down the required deposit for the auction is the company that built the ferry's engines, and their stated purpose was not to purchase the ship but to bid until the price was high enough to recoup their investment.
Now Gary has been telling me all along they are looking for music to play in background of their news stories; I came up with the idea they ought to play "Song For the Dumped" by Ben Folds Five, were it not for the fact it's in such poor taste, given the context:

    Give me my money back
Give me my money back, you bitch
    I want my money back

    and so on.

  • Looks like xanga.com, home of Maya Marcel-Keyes' blog among thousands of others, has crashed. Wonder if it's the Slashdot effect, or if someone ran a DOS attack against it?

  • Spent much of yesterday watching Animal Cops:Houston and saw quite a bit of Max Mixson, Senior Cruelty Investigator for the Houston SPCA. At the risk of perpetrating the Mother of All Bad Puns, "WOOF!" Oh yeah, there were a lot of cute puppies and kittens and horses on there too. ;-)

I wish I'd had a chance to try the fast ferry before it went belly-up, and I am looking forward to the re-launch.

BUT, I hope the City of Rochester doesn't sink too much money into this, because I don't think the service has a prayer of being economically viable. I hope you Rochester taxpayers don't get burned on this...

Was watching the news on the ferry this morning. I say as soon as the German company bids on it. Don't bid anymore. They don't want it. They just want to drive up the price. Once they have a bid in, if Rochester doesn't bid anymore, they got themselves a big boat that thery don't want. They can either reneg on the auction, which I don't know what that means for Rochester, but I would assume they would probably get it at the ptice they bid, or they can keep the boat and try and sell it themselves. Theyt probably COULD sell it, but I'd make sure to charge them docking fees for as longa s they keep it here in Rochester.

Greedy ass Germans. What are they trying to be? Americans???
