Shopping and birthday celebrating (a day early)

[Reconstructed from text messages.]

I ended up doing my birthday celebration the weekend before the actual date. Yesterday (Leap Day), Gary and I attended the Everett Silvertips hockey game at home vs. Kelowna; Everett 4, Kelowna 1.

The morning began with a wake-up call to pee about ten to six. I noticed Gary wasn't home so I texted him to let him know I was interested in hearing of his adventures when he got home, and went directly back to sleep.

The day began with a shopping run. Costco was simply mobbed, with not a parking space to be had, so I edited down my shopping list and picked up essentials at Safeway. Since we usually buy meat in bulk, I bought the biggest packs of pork chops and ground beef Safeway offered, and planned to portion them down later in the afternoon or tomorrow. While I was there I bought more Girl Scout cookies.

After getting those items home and put away, I went for round two: brunch, contact solution, and T-shirts from DXL. They didn't have the colors and sizes I wanted in store, so I ordered them online at the register and had them shipped to the house. It was getting late for lunch so I stopped by BWW in Lynnwood. They're remodeling, so after midnight tonight they close completely until Thursday. I decided to head for Seattle a little early for the XL Bears Games Night, so I parked at the Lynnwood Transit Center and caught up with Colleen and Dad by phone as usual. Colleen mentioned she was preparing a second-floor room for Alyssa for the summer. Alyssa's half-siblings Ryan and Brynn are to be baptized soon; Colleen will be the godmother and Steve (their uncle, not their grandpa) will be the godfather. I of course made the obligatory quote about an offer you can't refuse..

The bus was a Double Tall and I sat upstairs. A cute cublet with a stubbly face and just a hint of mustache, in a heavy camo jacket, tight neon blue jogging pants, and bright orange sneakers, chatted with his buddy in a foreign language. Could be French, Arabic, or maybe Russian, but not likely Spanish or Italian. I tracked the score of the Sounders game against the Chicago Fire (What's their mascot, a cow?) from lunchtime (when they were tied at nil at the half, and at one when I left) and they eventually won 2-1 with a goal in extra time. The weather was cloudy but bright, with no rain approaching the Ship Canal; however, the mountain was in (i.e. Rainier wasn't visible through the cloud cover).

When the bus arrived at Westlake I attempted to catch a 49 across the street, but because that bus does a layover instead of a live loop, I had to walk to 4th and Pike to catch it. While waiting there I talked with a woman with one leg below the knee seated in a wheelchair. The driver of the previous 11 bus has banned her from her bus, which seems a bit harsh and makes it difficult for her to get around. She really needs to be hooked up with the Access van service. Gary sent me a link to a Leap Day interview with some folks at an event  his brother Vince attended (it's his birthday). I got the news on the way up the hill that Pete Buttigieg has suspended his Presidential campaign.

With some time to kill before games night, I stopped by Steamworks to chill out and do my stretching exercises prescribed by my physical therapist. I got in a good workout. :) I ran into someone interesting, who fit the description of someone Gary had run into last night: ball cap, glasses, rail thin, with fur all over. Afterwards I waited for the 11 bus with a lady with a rat terrier in a pink sweater (the lady herself wore an Eagles jacket). She ended up missing the bus though. On board, I saw a bear with a lady companion seated on the back bench; both wore ponytails, and his was tied with a bright pink scrunchie.

At game night we played Skull and Werewords. The latter game is a mashup of Werewolf and 20 Questions. At the end of each round Aaron shouted "J'accuse!" So I showed him a picture of hockey star Jack Hughes. We really got into that game and played it for the rest of the evening. After gaming we had dinner at Bar Cotto again. I had the salumi plate and an order of gnocchi. I waited for the 11 bus with Jake and planned to give him a ride home from the bus station. I told Gary as we passed the Paramount that Frozen closed tonight, so we'll have to... let it go... :) We caught the 11:15 PM 512 from Olive and 6th, taking seats upstairs on the Double Tall. The new convention center looks to be freakishly huge: 8-10 stories above grade and 3-4 below on the low side (facing Olive Way).
