Weekend Wrap-up

Didn't do much Friday night other than one last overnight maintenance call for work, nor yesterday as [livejournal.com profile] gmjambear finished off some schoolwork. Made up for that today though.

Started off with a bus trip to downtown Seattle and then up Capitol Hill for Bear Brunch. There was rather a poignant moment as an older fellow slowly shuffled his way onto the bus ahead of ours at Fourth and Pine.

The notice that came in my e-mail didn't specify whether the event would be at Martin's or CC's, so we tried both. Martin's wasn't terribly busy, though we did say hello to [livejournal.com profile] bukephalus as we were passing through. The Bears were at CC's though, and we had a nice meal and caught most of the latter half of the X-Men Wolverine movie. Gary pointed out that the same actor playing Wolverine (the height of butchness) also played Peter Allen on stage.

Next we caught a bus back downtown to visit SAM (the Seattle Art Museum). Admission was free today with a Seattle Public Library card. There were some rally impressive displays including the works of an artist who specialized in mobiles (sort of grown-up versions over the kind that hang over babies' beds), an exhibit of rather impressive native art such as house posts, etc.

As we walked through an exhibit of religious art I noticed a work entitled "Saint Augustine in Ecstasy". I joked with Gary about the modern version, "Saint Augustine on Ecstasy". Only his face would be beet-red and sweaty, and he would have a water bottle in his hand and some glow-ropes around his neck. We also checked out an impressive garment made of 40,000 military-style dog tags embossed with random characters, and browsed through the shop on the way out.

On our way to the stop to catch the return bus to Everett, a small SUV crossed our path as we crossed Second Avenue and drove the wrong way up the one-way street, despite us yelling at the driver and pointing at the ONE WAY sign. We later saw the same SUV going the right way down Fourth Ave so they must have just gotten a bit lost.

As soon as we arrived home we turned on the recorded Olympic Gold Medal hockey match between the USA and Canada. It was fun to watch, the more so as we deliberately turned off the car radio on the way from the bus station so as not to hear the outcome beforehand. Congrats to Canada are in order.

Another fun day.

I hope you had a good one and that you are both doing well. All the Best, Tim
