Last Weekend

Gary ([livejournal.com profile] gmjambear) and I, along with 15 other members of the Empire Bears, visited Toronto last weekend.

Gary and I arrived early Friday evening, in time to take in the Toronto Argonauts' last CFL game of the regular season versus the Calgary Stampeders. It was quite exciting to watch, given that the game began with four nearly unanswered field goals by the Stampeders through the middle of the third quarter ("nearly" only because the Argos scored a single point in the second quarter by punting into their own end zone, a scoring method that doesn't exist in American football) and ended with the Argos roaring back to life with two field goals and a touchdown of their own. Thus it was that quirky single point that won the game for the Argos. After the game we split a submarine sandwich at Mr. Sub in the basement of Union Station before catching the subway and a bus back to the Toolbox, which is where we were staying. I wish we could have made it to the Black Eagle for the LJ meet & greet, but I'm also very happy with the way things worked out.

Saturday we took a few of the other Empire Bears shopping, first in the gay village and later at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, which meant navigating the outer reaches of Toronto's subway system. Saturday evening we had a delicious roast beef dinner courtesy of the Box, and had a great time with our bar night event and subsequent party upstairs.

Sunday was pretty much devoted to our Toronto friends and to Seumas ([livejournal.com profile] beardoc) who was staying with our friends from Bear Towers, [livejournal.com profile] mathan and [livejournal.com profile] scottybear. There are plenty of pictures of the festivities floating around; I've posted mine on my new web site. Suffice it to say a good time was had by all. (Update 10/01/2006: Replaced link with one that actually works.)

By Monday morning there were just three of us left -- Gary and I, and our friend and fellow Empire Bear David (aka "Savannah"). We all ate at the Joy Bistro (formerly known as "The Joy of Java") and went our separate ways home, intending to meet up at dinner at Mel's Diner in Rochester. So there was a bit of a surprise when we saw David again at lunch at the Thruway rest stop.

All in all, lots of fun.

Great pics! I wish I could have been up there. I think Larry would get a blast out of Toronto, and the Toolbox especially!

Perhaps in the near future....if not sooner.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it down next time you visit.
