Tukwila, Tukwila, Tukwila.
Living in Renton,
gmjambear and I often visit the neighboring suburban town of Tukwila to shop or eat at a restaurant.
Ever since we moved here, it's become sort of a running gag for me to recite the name three times, a reference to the song "Tit-Willow" from The Mikado which begins:
On a tree by a river, a little tom-tit
Sang "Willow, tit-willow, tit-willow."
I was first introduced to the song by The Muppet Show and Rowlf the dog singing the main part of the lyrics and Sam the American Eagle singing -- or rather, reciting, since actually singing it would be beneath him -- the "Willow, tit-willow, tit-willow" part.
Imagine my surprise when, on first hearing me mention Tukwila on the phone, my mom said "Gee, that sounds like something out of an old song" and began humming the first few bars of "Tit-Willow".
