The weekend so far...
In which I patch various systems, we do Karaoke, a fellow contractor leaves, we attend a housewarming and have a very nice (if expensive) dinner.
Last week at work was a little crazy, as I wanted to be sure to apply patches to as many systems as I could before the change freeze that took effect on Thursday. Basically, they don't want anyone breaking anything just before or during the July 4th holiday weekend when a) technical people are out of the office and b) retail stores are working their asses off and need access to systems. So Monday through Wednesday evenings were somewhat of a blur. At least I got to do most of the off-hours work from home this time around.
Thursday
gmjambear and I went out to have dinner at the Mongolian grill across from Renton airport (where new 737's and 757's take off for delivery to buyers) and went on to Jonathan's Karaoke at the Cuff. It was fun, I sang "Corner of the Sky" from Pippin which was always a favorite among friends at Tara's piano bar in Rochester; Gary sang "I Can't Tell You Why" by the Eagles and did a great job of it.
Friday at work we said farewell to one of our other contractors, who is returning to his native India for a few weeks before taking an assignment in Milwaukee. The evening we spent at home, Gary wanted to finish uploading his pictures from Pride (linked in a previous post) and I ended up catching up on some sleep.
Yesterday the SMC and SWC left for the This Land Is OUR Land tour; unfortunately I'm not joining them because I'll be in Cincinnati next weekend attending my nephew's wedding.
In the afternoon we went to a housewarming in the neighborhood just north of (and above) the Mount Baker Tunnels on I-90. We ran into friends Brendan and Gary from Federal Way and they invited us to spend the evening of the Fourth at their home watching fireworks.
Afterward we were thinking of going to Bear Night at CC Attles but decided it wasn't a high priority. Instead we drove down 23rd Avenue through the Arboretum and hopped on the WA 520 floating bridge to have dinner in Lincoln Square in downtown Bellevue. We ate at McCormick and Schmick's seafood restaurant. The food (Gary had the rainbow trout, I had the marlin, and we both had their most excellent chowder) was expensive but well worth the price; I think we should keep that place in mind if one or the other sets of parents come to visit, although we'll probably use that as an opportunity to take the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train instead.
After dinner we came home and I zoned out in front of the computer, a strong hint to get some sleep. Gary couldn't sleep so he went out, and is now sleeping as I type.
Time to check with the folks on next weekend's festivities, and perhaps get a haircut and shop for a lighter suit to wear.
