Bad times for contact-lens wearers
This blog entry is about the only resource for people who use CibaVision contact-lens solutions in the face of the incredible silence coming from the firm. This article is telling, especially the part about "we didn't want our competitors to find out".
Of course, people's options were made even fewer when Bausch and Lomb got themselves in trouble with fungal contamination.
Ciba Vision has just fucked themselves.
When the supply dried up, they had no suggestions to people other than consulting their eye care professional. Uh, hello? It often takes people a long time to do that, most people never think their solution will become completely unavailable without notice, and the sales staff at your local drugstore are just as in the dark as the customers.
Also, unlike B&L, who sold their solutions at reasonable prices, Ciba sold theirs at hyperpremium prices (that little platinum disk they use doesn't help) and implied that they were the sole source of the solution. The ugly truth is that they basically use good old hydrogen peroxide. I'm feeling defrauded after using their solutions all these years.
I picked up a small bottle of Opti-Free No-Rub which was the only solution that came in a smaller bottle. I'm a bit leery of using just any solution but I have to have something to clean my lenses right now and my eye care professional is certainly sound asleep back in Rochester.
If this solution works I am not going back. Production problems are one thing but trying to cover up complete unavailability of your product without providing an alternative is unconscionable. Conversely, if switching solutions causes any damage I'm sure their former customers -- hopefully myself not included -- will end up suing them into oblivion.
Like Brownie, CibaVision, is doing a heck of a job. Bleagh.
