Tonight's Concert

Now that [livejournal.com profile] gmjambear has seen our concert, I guess I can share some of the high points...

  1. Basic costume: black mock-turtleneck, black slacks, black dress shoes, socks, and belt.

  2. Opening medley: lots of "walking about". Add red hat and scarf to basic costume.

  3. Santa Claus medley: In quartet singing baritone (instead of my usual bass) on "Mr. Santa" (tune of "Mr. Sandman"). Add gold sparkly top hat and wild blue-and-purple vest to basic costume.

  4. Snow/Home medley: Stand-and-sing for the most part, finish with quartet singing "I'll Be Home For Christmas". Same costume as prior, but hide top hat until quartet sings.

  5. "Twas the Night Before Christmas": Stand-and-sing. Add Celtic (green plaid) scarf to basic costume.

  6. "The 12 Days of Christmas": Same costume as prior. Others are doing really wild costumery though -- especially the eight (French) maids a-milking and the twelve Drummers drumming. Finish with dramatic leap off stage among the pandemonium.

  7. Intermission.

  8. Children's medley: Basic black costume with "Frosty the Snowman" top hat (tenors are wearing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" antlers instead). Both songs are sung alternately and overlapping each other. Afterward, I do "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" solo, then run off and strip to boxer briefs for next costume change. Meanwhile, lots of solo and small group numbers including our director and principal accompanist doing "Nuttin' For Christmas" in drag.

  9. Toy medley: Fairy wings, rainbow suspenders over white T-shirt, mini-skirt with tinsel trim, white boxer briefs (visible under the skirt), choice of hankies, boot socks and boots. Dancing to "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies".

  10. Manger medley: Re-don basic black. Add red vest, then cover all with royal purple robe and crown. Do "Out of the East" in trio (singing bass this time) as one of the Three Kings. Ditch royal garb in blackout.

  11. Sing-Along: in audience in basic black + red vest.

  12. "White Christmas": Basic black + red vest, plus staging that would make Busby Berkeley proud.

Must be seen to be believed. If you're in the area be sure to come see us tonight at the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester at 8 PM.
