I never met Dan in person, and only got to know him through answers to people's posts, most extensively through this post in my journal in which he traded reminiscences with my partner gmjambear. But as with so many of the casual acquaintances I've made through LJ, he came across as a very nice man, and I'm certain the world is just that much poorer with him gone.
