On birthdays, web stuff, and "lorem ipsum..."
First off, a big Thank You is in order for
gmjambear for announcing my birthday to all and sundry, and for buying the stuff I picked out when we were book shopping this evening, as a birthday present. That was sweet.
One of the things I picked out was the O'Reilly book (or, as I tend to call it, a "critter book" because of the animal prints on most of their covers) on Cascading Style Sheets, something
nfotxn happened to mention the other day. As we maintain the web site for the Empire Bears I think this will come in handy, and apparently it lets you do Cool Stuff that works in most people's browsers. We Shall See.
One curious thing: as I started reading the book, I found several of the examples used that nonsense text in pseudo-Latin that begins "Lorem ipsum ...". So I just had to check it out, and found this at the Straight Dope. As it turns out, it's basically some text from Cicero that has been garbled over the years. Who knew?
Anyway, I also got to chat with my folks and with my sister at some length this morning, and all in all, it's been a grand birthday.
