Super Sunday!
Feb. 2nd, 2020 11:59 pm[Reconstructed after the fact from text messages and Facebook posts.]
Gary wasn't interested so I decided to make the trip to Seattle by myself for Super Bowl watching at Diesel and XL Bears games night. I parked at South Everett and caught up with Colleen via text on the ride downtown. She'd just gotten Dad to the armory where Erin's husband Jay works, so he could use the shower there; it's specially outfitted for wheelchair use. On Sundays it never fails: I missed my connection from the 512 to the 2 bus at the library.
When I got to Diesel, the game was already underway and the KC Chiefs were leading, so I texted Gary that "Captain Coley is happy, for now". Soon afterward, Brian from UW arrived and we hung out together for the duration of the game. He told me Bert Rachicar from the Baltimore Colts is his grandfather. His dad played for Tennessee but not in the NFL. I also met a tall, dark-bearded dude wearing a Bear Bait T-shirt, also named Mike, at the bar and again at Games Night, where I complimented him on the T-shirt. Mike (the proprietor) arrived around seven as the game was winding up and we got some pictures together, including the sign by the tip jar that read "J. Lo for Super Bowl MVP". The game was running late and I posted a message to the event page on Facebook that I'd be at Games Night after the football game concluded; the two venues are about a block apart. San Francisco took the lead early on, but KC caught up with a Travis Kelce TD -- which gave me an excuse to woof at him in a text to Gary -- and ultimately won the game, 31-20. Gary pointed out that Travis Kelce is hot and has a potty mouth. My cousin's daughter Jenifer posted a picture of a seal at the aquarium posing with Patrick Mahomes in a headset and Chiefs cap to look like Andy Reid, and our friend Carlos posted an article pointing out Kelce's black girlfriend, referring to their relationship as "milk chocolate" (ugh). Also, one of the Chiefs was spouting about Jesus helping them win the game, and Gary relayed that to me via text, to which I responded "He's watching hockey." :) Gary also reminded me the hot doctor bear from Montreal, Dr. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, has a Super Bowl ring now. Le grrrrr... I sent congratulations to my LEAGUE buddy in KC after the game as well.
When I'd made my way to Games Night, held at Intrigue Chocolate and Coffee House, it was a bit late to start any games, but I listened as Gray held court with Robert, Danny, and a young blind dude who later introduced himself as Austin from Florida. They were discussing politics, which prompted an "Oy!" from Gary. I also reminded myself that the name of the dude I keep mixing up with Rob is Dan; his beard reminds me of Hugh Jackman in Wolverine.
We had dinner at Bar Cotto again. I had mixed salumi and gnocchi, with an orange-flavored San Pellegrino sparkling water, for dinner. Good stuff though a bit spendy. Austin was talking about brain augmentation technology over dinner. I mentioned The Terminal Man and he said that's actually close to the state of the art today.
After dinner I waited for the 11 bus with Jacob, who rides with me from the bus station home. We missed a 12 and a 2 within minutes of each other. On the way down Pine Street, the bus made a sudden stop, slamming me into the barrier and launching Jacob from his seat. Someone must have tried to cross the street in front of the bus. I reassured Gary we were OK via text. As we waited at Olive and 6th it began to rain. But we made it home without further incident.
