Morning Check-In

I've been up since about 6:30 this morning trying to get some issues straightened out for work. Looks like it's gonna be a looong day. The reason I had to be up that early is that I needed to check with some folks in Germany who are supporting our firewalls among other things. The problem is that we have to keep our firewall software up-to-date -- there are some serious bugs that we need a "hotfix" to get rid of -- and until this morning I couldn't get to the systems to do so.
So I did a bit of work from home, and am now getting ready to go to the office, and will have to go back after rehearsal this evening (10 PM) to really fix stuff. It's part of the job working for a global company -- you have to do systems work at odd hours so you aren't kicking people off on the West Coast. (At least we have separate systems for the Americas, Europe, and Asia/Pacific, otherwise we'd never be able to fix anything.)
At least machine problems are easier to deal with than people problems. After all, that's one reason I do what I do. I don't think I'd have the patience for a job working with people problems all day long (help desk, anyone?).
